You Train What You Don't Want
Too often, I see dogs who have been sent to shelters, given up, abandoned, or even killed because their owners just assume they will turn out exactly how they want them. Unfortunately, that isn't the case and from the first day you get the dog to the last day you have the dog training is #1 in their daily lives. Cesar Milan's famous phrase "Exercise, Discipline, Affection" is something every owner needs to take into account. I haven't met one trainer who doesn't say that Exercise is a must for proper training.
Dogs generally need to work, or have a job, where their mind and body are both being active. For example, lets say that you spent all day sitting at the computer staring at it. That's it just staring. Wouldn't you start going out of your mind? You can see everything that is going on with it but you can't touch it. That is the way it is with dogs. They know that it is with in their power to walk and make it to a new destination but with owners keeping them cooped up all day and all night they start losing their mind. Even convicts in jails and prisons get "yard" time.
Ok, so you say, "Well, I let my dog play outside half the day." Great! Unfortunately, that doesn't stimulate his mind. That is play, NOT work. A dog needs to use his mind, senses, muscles, and heart to enter the state of mind that makes them manageable. Cesar is also famous for saying this, "Animal first, Breed Second, Name Last!" You must always remember this! The animal's instincts must be met, then the specific breeds needs, and lastly then you have his name. I suppose it should be said something like this. Exercise the Animal, Discipline the Breed, Affection with the Name. If you don't have the time to implement these practices into your daily routine, perhaps, you need to reconsider your desire for an animal. Not saying don't have a pet, just saying, maybe consider a different type of pet. Dogs are like 2 years old they play, they sleep, and they go to the bathroom. Left to their own devices they will destroy everything in their path. Give the proper training and they will be metaphorically saying "Yes Ma'am/Sir"
That is just my two cents worth. I hope you enjoyed the read!

Kill Shelters!
Every morning my routine is more or less the same. Wake up, take the dogs out potty, run the dogs and cat (if she chooses to get on the treadmill, feed the dogs, feed the cat, clean the litter box, and then log onto my computer. Every morning, I am gullible enough to believe that I won't see anything that will make me sad and it will be fun to cruise Facebook. And every morning, I am sadly mistaken. Every morning, I see post like these. I start crying. I understand the need to make more room, but what I don't understand is why people go to breeders for a PURE BLOOD when there are amazing PURE BLOODS in the shelters. I do not believe I can portray how upset and angered I am by this in writing.
My stomach clenches, my jaw tightens, my throat constricts to the point of pain, my eyes mist with the unshed tears for this animal I don't even know. My day, well, my day seems just a little bit off from then on out. These animals that are dying are the animals that have been marred by people's ignorance, they aren't animals who have been taught that aggression is the only way to handle an issue. These animals are lovely, mostly well mannered, some times a bit older but by all means great animals.
Let's try and help these guys. Remember, next time you are looking for a dog. Go to the shelters. Go to the rescues. Or even if you aren't looking for a pup but just have the urge to help out. Get a pup from these kill shelters and then find him/her it's forever home!

Lets Educate the Pet Owners!
"Any breed can cause trouble. The difference between an aggressive Chihuahua and an aggressive pit bull is that the bigger breeds can cause proportionately bigger damage." (Cesar, 2012)
I am putting it out there folks! This ban on dog breeds has reached new heights! I firmly believe that it isn't the dogs that are the problem but the humans who own the dogs. “A major dog behavior problem stems from dogs becoming aggressive out of frustration and dominance. The frustration comes from a lack of exercise, and the dominance comes from a lack of calm-assertive leadership.”
